A couple of cupids exploring the wonderful hidden places of the world.

facebook google twitter tumblr instagram linkedin

After about two months of boredom and an eager urge to travel, we took a couple of days leave, hopped onto a small cute ferry and began our journey from the Gate of Mumbai to an island called Elephanta Island or Gharapuri.

This spectacular island located on an Arm of Arabian Sea is a home to beautiful caves called Elephanta Caves, the caves which are assumed be built between 5th to 8th century and by whom…., well that’s still a mystery.

Hey Cupids,

So talking about the demonetization across India and the hardships and problems the travelers have to go through as 500 and 1000 Currency Denominations are not accepted, hope this step by the Prime Minister brings good results.
Once upon a time when these currency notes were accepted ( -J ) , I would like to narrate a wonderful and unforgettable trip that we had to one of the most beautiful wonders of the world and also this will be the last segment of “A trip to Northern India”.
So after visiting Delhi, we hopped on the train that took us to Agra which is about 195 to 200 kms from Delhi.
Once you hear the name of Agra, the picture that immediately brushes your mind will be of the wonderful monument know as TAJ MAHAL.

Love often knows no boundaries and when you see a monument like this your mind will immediately get indulged in a broader definition of love.
In the Bollywood and during school and college time we had seen lovers ( or would rather say cupids ) presenting each other with a small version in the form of a key chain or rather a showpiece that people kept as an item of work presented for display.

Little did we knew that this amazing mausoleum was not only immense but also so wonderfully built that left us completely gob smacked.

Beautifully built with amazing carvings this iconic monument symbolizing love is built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Defined by 4 huge minarets the Taj Mahal is built inside a courtyard that is set behind a reflecting pool.

We were trying different poses to get ourselves clicked besides this Wonder of the World.

Happy Winter Cupids,

So after spending our leisure time at Qutb Complex our guts still craved to visit another beautiful monument that would still keep us bewildered that how these wonderful places are constructed.

Keeping in view the above we started looking and asking people which other place to visit.

Have you come across any such incident wherein it was not certain and planned to visit a place but you did on the advice of the local people and later got so frantic that you almost lost the sense of time.

The same happened with us when we visited Lotus Temple.

So when you guys hear the word temple what do you expect?

Off course a beautiful idol of some God and all people present in the temple offering their prayers to that God.

Well the Lotus temple doesn’t have any idol. It doesn’t mean that no prayers are offered. Well the only reason is that people are free to worship any God or any religion in this temple. It believes in Oneness of God, Oneness of religion and most importantly Oneness of all Humanity.

This thought and a more broader and mature view towards religion and God was one of the reasons that this beautifully constructed monument makes it to the list of

“Top places to visit New Delhi “. Off course its beautiful construction was the second reason.

This beautiful temple also called Bahai House of worship is made of 27 petals made of marble and has nine doors that lead to a common prayer hall.

I read somewhere that this marble was imported from Greece and we almost got enchanted when we felt the coolness of the marble between our feet and the floor.

This temple is visited by more than 10,000 people a day and 4 million people every year.

Hence sometimes this temple is even called the Taj Mahal of New Delhi.

Had a very hectic day at office, home, traffic and noise pollution and going through a predicament in your life. Pay a visit to this temple and rejuvenate your mind. Chant the mantra of “ AUM “ and dump and free your souls from all the worries and leave this temple with a fresh and energetic body ,mind and soul.

What else…..? Well that’s not all folks, this elegantly and beautifully constructed monument is one of the first and few temples in Delhi that uses solar power.

Get yourself greeted by a beautiful lake and a wonderful garden when you enter this temple.

The timings are 9:30 am till 5:30 pm in winter and till 7 pm during summers. It remains open from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on Monday.

You can reach this amazing temple by metro. The nearest metro is Kalkaji Mandir on the violet line. From here one has to take a cab or rickshaw.

So next time you visit Delhi please keep aside a special time so that you can have a completely different experience of this grandeur worship place as sometimes it is important to think back and reminisce on what indelible treasures you have experienced.

So that's all Cupids.

Stay tuned for the next post on " One of the most Amazing wonders of the world with a story of love behind it" in our next segment of  "A trip to Northern India "

Hey Cupids,

So with the beginning of winter season, we would like to recall our trip to New Delhi – the capital city of India after we bid adieu to unforgettable city and unforgettable memories we had in Amritsar.

Being the month of January it was too way chilling and completely different weather experience for us.

However as usual the peace of mind and joy that emerged through travelling was at its peak.

Commuting in Delhi is way too easy and also cheap because of the speedy and comfortable metro trains ------However beware of the peak hours or be intrepid enough to make your way through the huddle of people.

We first went to the beautiful temple of Akshardham – a beautiful temple that not only depicts Hinduism values, culture and tradition but also it’s a sumptuous example of the architectural work and dedication put in by the people.

Visit the link to know more:
Akshardham

Photography is not allowed inside the temple and hence no pictures were taken by us.

Don’t forget to witness a gorgeous water show that will leave you in state of subtle aura.

You will need one full day to visit this beautiful temple.

You can even stay in the temples guest house if you have come in groups but only by prior appointment otherwise off course there are plenty of good hotels in Delhi.

The second day was filled with zeal, vigour and enthusiasm.

Travelling in metro trains & visiting places walking has its own charm.

So we first visited Qutub Minar.

Qutub Minar which is at height of 73 meters is the tallest brick minar in the world.

The construction of Qutub Minar was started during 1200AD by Qutb al-Din Aibak and was completed by Iltutmish.

There are several ancient monuments surrounding it and is known as Qutub Complex which is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE.

If you are a historian and are keen to know about India’s history then this place can be a wonderful abode for you.

Go through the pictures and get tempted to know more.

A little more close view……-J

Still more close -J

You guys know what? This place can even work wonders if you are a professional photographer. Models will off course go nuts -J

An amazing window to get clicked here. I think this was built in anticipation by the king at that time keeping in mind the young and creative photographers of today. - J

Stay tuned and get to know about a beautiful meditation place that we visited after our visit to this tall, dark and handsome minar which is one of the tallest of all the minars of India.

Till then…..Keep travelling.

Love,

Hey Cupids,

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the beautiful post monsoon season.

Today we would like to continue and extend further our sequel to “A trip to Northern India “

So after spending our leisure time at Jammu and enjoying a wonderful nature’s paradise we “The backpackers” packed our rucksacks and hopped on to a train that took us to a beautiful place in northwestern India called “Amritsar” – meaning “pool of ambrosial nectar.”

When we reached Amritsar we knew which places we were about to visit.

What we didn’t knew was the charm, elegance, a picturesque temple surrounded by a lake and most importantly a simple undisturbed meditation abode that we experienced.

We reached Amritsar at night and booked a hotel just a few steps away from “The Golden Temple.”

A religious place – “The Golden Temple “was built by the fourth Sikh Guru and is also knows as

“Shri Harmandir Sahib”.

Follow this link to know more about this mesmerizing temple.

Hey Cupids,

After having a fabulous trip at the foothills of Trikuta and visiting a million years old cave we realized how much India has in store for us.

India-a land of rich culture and heritage which has manifested in various languages, temples, handicrafts, buildings and palaces and museums.

In view of this when we visited Jammu we decided to visit a beautiful palace, now turned into a gorgeous museum.

It was built in the 19th Century by Raja Amar Singh and throws much light on how various parts of India was governed and ruled by different Kings.
Follow this link to know more
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amar_Mahal_Palace.

This palace also offers a beautiful view of the Tawi river valley.
If you happen to visit Jammu then this place should be on top of your list of “Things to do in Jammu”.

Hola Cupids,
Have you been to Northern Part of India? Whether “YES” or “NO” ,after reading these posts ( which we will narrate in different parts ) we are sure that you will be tempted and will have all kinds of urges and impulse to travel to these beautiful places which we are about to share.
As such the Northern part of India has so much to offer for all the travel enthusiasts.
However we wanted to cover these mentioned places within 15 days which should be must in your travel itinerary to Northern India.
During this trip we adopted the principle of “Value based travelling” so that you can cover beautiful places under a strict budget.
The amount saved can be used for your next trip.-:)
Go through the post http://www.cupidtravellers.com/2016/08/top-ways-on-how-to-travel-cheap-within.html to know the Top ways on how to travel cheap within India.
So folks the first and foremost thing during our trip to Northern India was to plan in anticipation and hence we booked the train tickets 3 months in advance.
We decided to cover these places mentioned within 15 days and make the most out of our trip.
We will let you know all the places that we covered as you go through these posts which we will write in three to four parts.
So here goes Part -1.
1.    Jammu/Katra – Visiting the holy shrine of Goddess Vaishno Devi.
So the first place we decided to cover was visiting the Holy Shrine of Goddess Vaishno Devi.
In order to visit this beautiful place you will have to reach Katra which is a small town situated near Jammu. The distance between Jammu and Katra is about 40-50kms.When we decided to travel in the year 2012 at that time there was no direct train available to Katra. So we had to book ticket till Jammu. And from there we hired a car to reach Katra.
But now there are direct trains available to Katra. The train ticket will cost you around Rs 650/- per person ( one way ).
So now keeping aside the itinerary.
The road from Jammu to Katra offered some of the breathtaking and spectacular views and almost all of us ( we were going with 15 of our friends ) lost the sense of time and didn’t realized when we reached Katra.

Hey Cupids,
How you all. Hope you all are having the best of your time this monsoon.
Anyways…….Do you know what is the most exciting thing to plan during your travel. Well its choosing the type of hotel.
And if it’s a hotel by the beach then it can be the icing on the cake.
Last year during Holi we planned a weekend gateway at Daman as it was two to three days off and we didn’t wanted to miss this opportunity.
Daman is a union territory which have two separate areas, called Nani Daman and Moti Daman, divided by Daman Ganga River.
Daman was ruled by Portuguese during 16th century and was later incorporated into the Republic of India after a battle between Portuguese and Indians.
Well this was a small brief about the union territory of Daman.
We now keep aside history and geography of Daman and focus on the hotel where we had stayed in Daman -:)

Hey Cupids,

As we eagerly await for the next part of Fast and Furious franchisee which showcases the fast modern cars, I would like to take you to an era of world’s most authentic old vintage cars museum. This museum is one another hidden gem which is situated in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat State.

If you ask your father or grandfather in their mid-sixties and seventies to visit this place they will surely travel back in their time and will remember their vigorous time they had in their youth.

This place had all sorts of old vintage cars like Hotch Kiss, Cadillac, Mercedes, Herald, Bentley etc . You name it and you will find it.

The station wagons, convertibles, old Sports cars etc which were owned by the rich, elite and the royals during that period will surely make you fall in love with this place.

It’s worth noting that today’s much more modern cars will surely not be able to compete with the design and elegance of these old cars. No wonder the saying “OLD IS GOLD “truly suits these cars.

The place has about 110-115 vintage cars and you not only have the opportunity to see these gorgeous beauties but you also have the chance of your life time to sit and have a ride in these cars for a mere Rupees 500.The entry charges are just Rupees 50 and they take Rupees 100  if you want to click photos. That’s pretty cheap.

If you are a true car enthusiast and if you want to ride in these cars which you had only seen in your history books then this place is a must to visit.

This place is owned by Mr Pranlal Bogilal who has done a wonderful job of collecting cars from different families living in different parts of the country.

There is also a separate stall of old motor bikes which you will surely enjoy.

Go through the pictures and start your journey of going through the post in these elegant beauties.

Visit the link if you want to know more about this place.

Keep some one by your side to wake you up…..Just in case you go back to an era of these cars in your dreams and is difficult to bring you back. - J

Love.
Dipika &
DevD.

He is my Dad. Having spent almost his entire life in rectifying cars, he almost went crazy visiting this place.

Happy Monsoon Cupids,

You know which the most favorite season is for all the Cupids….Well indeed it is monsoon.

So with the arrival of Rainy Season ,waters pouring on the earth and love pouring within our hearts we would like to share a weekend gateway trip where we went to MATHERAN.

Wonderful view of the clouds touching the tip of the mountains, hearing the sound of several birds chirping, sight of a dense forest cover with several trees with its branches and leaves swaying to the tune of cool breeze, just when the rain stops and the water droplets sitting on the leaves and the leaves slightly moving back and forth so that the droplets fall on the mother earth, your senses getting addicted to the beautiful scent of the mud and the green lush cover, visiting a place with almost NIL Air pollution, All of these might sound like a Paradise to you.

On the earth there is no perfect paradise but there are pieces of it. MATHERAN is one of such place which will take you way back over a hundred years in time when there were no vehicles.

As there are no vehicles allowed the air pollution is almost NIL.

What else you need as a NATURIST? If you are a true NATURE lover and if you want to run away from the hustling and bustling city then this place can be a HEAVEN for you.

If you have hidden hints of adventurer in you then this place also offers ZIP Lining or Valley crossing as you will see in the pictures and also mountain tracking ( we were not fortunate enough to do mountain tracking because of lack of time )

So starting the Trip….

We decided to go to Matheran during weekends way back four years before in 2012 when we were “BACHELORS”

We went there with a bunch of our close friends with whom we have travelled so many places within India.

Matheran is small hill station in the state of Maharashtra and is located about 90kms from Mumbai. The word MATHERAN means “Mother Forest”. Matheran is an eco- sensitive region declared by the Government of India. Vehicles are not allowed in Matheran which makes this place different from others.

There are a lot of look out points which gives you wonderful and spectacular views of different mountains. The Panorama Point provides you 360 degree views of the surrounding region.

There are different points such as Alexander Point, One tree hill ,Echo point, Panorama Point which is a Sun rise point and also Porcupine Point which is a Sun set point.

This place can work wonders for all the “NATURISTS” and “ PHOTOGRAPHERS”.

Our planned trip in Monsoon came with a set of its own Advantages and Drawbacks.

Rani Ki Vav (The queen of the step wells of India)

I never believed that a step well can be so big ,until I saw this one. Beautifully constructed and with brilliant architectural work this step well is the Queen of all wells which is situated in Patan,Gujarat. Patan is about  127kms from Ahmedabad and about 34 kms from the Sun temple. You can go there after visiting the Sun temple at Modhera and then return to Ahmedabad.( if you want to catch a train or flight from Ahmedabad ).This step well built in third millennium BC comes under the UNESCOS world Heritage sites.
Follow the link to learn more:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rani_ki_vav
Please go to visit this place during the day time so that you can enjoy the beautiful carvings of this great archeological place. Also this place is situated in slightly remote/village area so turn on the GPS if you have. Or else be ready to ask the directions to the people in local language ( i.e Gujarati ) or Hindi.

The step wells in Gujarat and Rajasthan were built as it served many purposes. It was used to store water and this water was used for bathing and washing, provide shelter to the travelers from the scorching heat of the sun. In the past there were no hotels to stay and travelers used to spend some time over here. Such kind of wells were also called stopovers.

Women used to gather over here and have leisure time discussing daily routines.

These wells were also preferred venues for sacred rituals.

I will not write more on this and will let the pictures do the talking.

A short introduction of this great work.

===> Suntemple - Modhera

Hello Cupids, - J

So how many of you guys have visited many places but haven’t yet explored the place where you have lived? How many of you haven’t yet explored the hidden gems found in your home state/city.

Sometimes we visit many different places but we do not have any cognizance of our own place where we have been brought up.

Same happened with us. Until one day when one of my cousins came to see us, we decided to see three

precious jewels of Gujarat, not known to many.

A trip to :

1) Sun Temple-(Modhera), ( Part 1 of Visiting marvels of Gujarat )

2) Rani Ki Vav ( The queen of the step wells of India ) and

3) Adalaj Ki Vav ( A step well with a tale of love and enmity behind it ) - ( Part 2 of Visiting marvels of Gujarat )

It is said that Kerala is Gods own Country…………………Well indeed it is.

Recently in the month of April we planned a trip to Kannur (or also known as Cannanore )  which is a beautiful city in the state of Kerala.

We had not preplanned this trip. We decided to visit Kannur to attend wedding of one of our best friends who is originally from Kannur and working in Vadodara, Gujarat with us.

Ooops I forgot to tell you something more about us besides being “cupid travelers”.

We (both me and my wife) are electrical engineers by profession and working in an MNC in Vadodara, Gujarat. I am Devansh and my wife’s name is Dipika.

Now coming back to our Kannur trip.

As this trip was not preplanned we got leave only for a week. Also we had not booked tickets in advance…….which was a blunder by us.
